Project

This is a small pilot run by Opera Circus and Numbi Arts brought together by the great Somalian/Italian poet and writer Ubah Cristina Ali Farah. We worked with Ubah on Silent City, a community opera for Italy’s City of Culture Matera 2019. Ubah wrote the libretto for Nigel Osborne, who worked with the community to produce the music.

This is a short 4 day residency with very limited resources but with the support of Selgars Mill and Stir for Action we have been able to manage this first step towards future collaboration.  Selgars Mill is a centre for the democratic economy, climate emergency and social change and is a perfect place for working intensely in a beautiful environment. 

Most of the young people who are taking part are from Tower Hamlets. We had hoped to widen this to a larger group as well as have more TCFT artists involved but the short time scale meant that traditional funding sources weren’t available.
