Makeda was a participant of TCFT's Youth Arts Residency in February 2016 at Bridport Arts Centre. SHe took part in the dance workshops led by Billy Read (UK) and Giulia Marchetti (ITALY).
I think TCFT has brought out the creative side of me.
Trying things that I usually wouldn’t even attempt was an amazing experience in itself: but the best part was being around such inspiring people - meeting people with the same interests and hobbies as me.
During the week, I was challenged and put to the test, but also given many opportunities to use my strengths. I’ve made new friends and surprised myself in many ways.
Working with able-bodied people and people with disabilities has been a real eye opener. And also to find out about their lives has been really interesting: and I think that the fact that everyone was involved in the end performance, and that everyone had a role, was really special. It was heart-warming to see the smiles on everyone’s faces during the end performance.
TCFT are like my second family now! – And I hope to stay involved with this project in the future (maybe eventually become a facilitator for Dance or Music).
Thankyou to Billy and Guilia for taking the time to teach us dance and to everyone for making feel at home... I’m glad to have had spent my half term working with this wonderful group.
