Born in Walsall, West Midlands, Billy grew up in a hearing family, having being deaf since the age of three. Growing up was an isolated experience for Billy - being the only deaf pupil in his school, however at the age of eleven he attended the boarding school: Mary Hare Grammar School for the Deaf, which was his first experience of living and learning amongst other deaf people.
After seven years in Berkshire, Billy returned home to study Art at college and then at Wolverhampton University, graduating in Graphic Design. It was while at university that Billy developed his interest in dance, through his passion for music and love of Michael Jackson. In 2011 Billy set up the UK's only all-deaf dance crew Def Motion, which has performed to deaf and hearing audiences around the UK as well as in France, Italy, and the United States.
Since 2012, Billy began teaching dance. Despite having little experience in dance (having started at the age of 21), Billy utilised his self-taught skilss and knowledge in choreography, audio-memory and visuality to teach deaf and hearing people, at festivals, clubs and at University. Since then, Billy has taught dance to people all over the UK and also in Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and the United States.
